The Birth of our Blog

Happy Birthday to our blog! Tonight Katie, Margaret and Brooke witnessed the beginning of this online journal. We have decided to start this blog to help everyone stay up to date with the happenings of the Young Women in the Harkers Island Ward. It is our hope that those who are unable to attend will still be able to stay connected.
Tonight we talked about upcoming activities for the month of June. The end of the school year is rapidly approaching, and to say we are excited is definitely an understatement. Young Women's Camp will be June 10th-14th. We are proud of Brooke for her plans to attend camp this year. Sadly, while Margaret and Katie, avid camp enthusiasts, have other obligations and will be unable to attend. While they will not be there physically, Brooke will be in their thoughts and PRAYERS!
This past Sunday we attended the Seminary graduation/Joseph Smith fireside in Kinston. We enjoyed the remarks made by all speakers, especially Pres. Joel G. Hancock. Brother Shawn Bates, our new 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric sang the song "Brother, I'll Follow You" and did a fantastic job.
The ride home was quite eventful. Between the bad weather and unique sense of humor it made for a interesting ride home. The drive home had us battling the elements. Bad news struck when one of our girls received a text that Harkers Island was without electricity or more commonly known on the Island as "current".
As a side note Margaret was frightened and disturbed by a church bulletin on the ride home. The bulletin simply said, "Piercing saved our lives". Margaret dramatically interrupted all conversations to explain how confused and appalled she was that a church bulletin was condoning body piercings. Much relief was felt when ALL in the car participated in explaining the actual meaning of the sign. You could see the relief wash over her face as she realized that actual piercing was not required to attend church.
We had a fabulous ending to an even better trip. As we approached the Harkers Island Bridge, we all love so much, we saw the most beautiful sight we had seen in a while. Harkers Island had returned to civilization..... we had ELECTRICITY again!
We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Palmyra trip. Check back here for more updates! We plan on adding every Wednesday.
Sunday, June 8
We had visitors from the Stake and the YM/YW combined for an interesting and uplifting session. We watched a presentation about being the best we can be and not settling for less than our best. Afterward we talked about our upcoming Palmyra trip. A big THANK YOU to all those Sisters who signed up to help with the bake sale this coming Saturday. We hope it is a resounding success.

Wow! I think this awesome. I love the blogspot. I really miss you gals and often wonder what you are up to. Keep posting so I won't have to wonder anymore. I send my love to each one of you. MAWH!! Stay active, be strong and immovable even in a world that is drastically changing. It will be well worth the effort. I promise!

I am also looking forward to the Palmyra trip! Our ward will have 10 YW and 7 YM going. I hope we are on the bus together, but if not I will have to catch up and get some loving when we are together.
